The Bar Sign
c. 1945. Painted tin and neon, Maker unknown, 40 inches by 20 inches by 12 inches.
Attracting thirsty travelers for over 50 years, this icon on N. Franklin street has been glowing sultry red in the night throughout this building’s tumultuous past. “We decided to keep it”, said DeAnna after briefly considering its removal. “It’s part of the building and a landmark locally”. Often called the ‘Bar’ Bar because the name Mason never appeared on a sign to identify the place. Now we say, look for the glowing red neon bar sign at the end of Coryell Street when people are lost. It is a ‘beacon in the night’ and will guide you to one of the best restaurants in town.
